Robby's Story

Growing up the daughter of a chiropractor, even I sometimes "forget" how amazing chiropractic is! Once the pain subsides, we can forget how, in an instant, a chiropractor's hands can turn excruciating pain into freedom and wellness! You'd think I wouldn't forget. I wouldn't forget the time I had my wisdom teeth pulled and has headaches for weeks until my father, Dr. Russell Krebs, adjusted my cranial bones and my spine and my headaches disappeared almost instantly! I shouldn't forget the times when Dad adjusted my babies to miraculously quiet their colic…and the stories could go on and on. Chiropractors are part of miracles every day and we shouldn't forget. But even people like me, whose primary care ‘physician" was always a chiropractor, sometimes forget to go back to what we know works when health problems crop up. We forget to try chiropractic first.

Recently, my son Rob (6) had his tonsils and adenoids removed. We were told ahead of time of the post-op recovery process and we were warned that Rob's neck and shoulder "muscles" might be sore afterwards. We were told what to do to prevent the muscle soreness that could result. We followed all the post-op advisements and the weeks following surgery wasn't as bad as we thought.

At the one-week mark, we were supposed to see marked improvements in Rob's health. He was supposed to return to regular diet and activity, but Rob's health declined. He got a fever of 104 and spent every day just lying around. He wasn't interested in eating or playing. We went to the pediatrician who did a blood test and the diagnosis was that Rob had an unrelated virus. At the two-week mark, the fever was gone, but we saw no improvement in Rob's condition. He still spent every day just lying on the floor. Again, a blood test was ordered and there was no explanation for Rob's condition. The pediatrician's office was wondering if there was some change in our "social history" at home that Rob might be responding to.

At this point, I was looking for our local chiropractor to give us an assessment, but he was teaching a seminar in Australia and wouldn't be back for a while. We waited to see if Rob's energy level would return, but it didn't. My husband and I were very concerned about him. The surgeon's office called and couldn't explain the symptoms Rob was having. The pediatrician's office called daily to see if Rob was better, but they were stumped. They guessed perhaps it was a really bad virus that Rob just couldn't kick but Rob didn't have any other symptoms, other than that he just didn't have any energy.

When Dr. Bill Droessler, our local chiropractic "hero", returned from Australia, we made an appointment. When we went in to his office, Rob laid across the chair in the waiting room, lacking the energy to sit upright. When he went in to the treatment room, Rob laid on the adjusting table. He was just so weak. Dr. Droessler found that his atlas was subluxated and worked diligently to make the necessary correction. Within minutes, Rob's energy level increased, he was upright and talking! Over the next few hours, he was like Popeye who had just eaten his spinach! Our Robby was back!

I was elated, of course, but at the same time I was kicking myself. Those of us who know about chiropractic should "get to it" when our loved ones aren't feeling well. I subjected my son to two blood draws and three weeks of feeling awful and it wasn't necessary. We had been warned about the "muscle" problems the surgery could create, but his neck was probably subluxated when they positioned his head to remove his adenoids and that was never mentioned. It didn't occur to me that lethargy to that degree could be caused by a pinched nerve in his neck .s I was caught up in the "black fog" of the medical world not knowing what to do for my son. I was thinking it had to be something that went terribly wrong during the surgery! I had to go back, on my own, to what I've always known-that subluxations can and do greatly alter one's wellness and health, and that chiropractic can do amazing things when that happens.

I wished now that I had gotten Rob to a chiropractor right away. My father and brother both practice in Campbellsport and that 1.5 hr drive each way would have been worth it to save Rob from the effects of the subluxation that he endured those three weeks.

When Rob was asked how he felt during those three weeks, he didn't report any specific pain. He just said he just didn't feel good. Pediatricians and surgeons don't know what to do in those situations, but chiropractors do! We all need to remember that the miracles of chiropractic are available every day. We are so glad a miracle came our way that August 05 day in Dr Droessler's office and we're so glad that our very active boy is healthy again!
